This week has been..........

Well this week has been a roller-coaster ride I can tell you. Looking at houses and finding the perfect one only to be told it has been taken away and they have found someone else.

I started at a new job Friday, it's nothing permanent at the moment but it gets me out and about, Juno free. It's a lovely cafĂ© in town and everyone there is so warm and welcoming. If you are in Burnham pop in and say hello.

Mr White's tank has had a makeover and now looks sparkly and clean. He looks so happy.

So, I've been thinking that seeing as though there is about 9 weeks until Christmas, I need to start making some resolutions and must do's for Autumn/ Winter.

These include -

  • At least 80% of Christmas is to be home-made - As we don't have a lot of pennies at the mo, also I think it's more personal to receive a gift that someone has taken the time and effort to make.

  • To get my first tattoo - I was thinking either something like this on my leg as I love Studio Ghibli  and this was the first film I saw of their's. Also I have a thing with black cats, it will represent Kiri and Stewie, my two old cats that I have been brought up with.
Image from google

  • Broaden my horizons - I've been just in a circle of watching Breaking bad, CBeebies and crap T.V so I think it's time to get back into some other T.V, Film and documentaries that I have a massive list of to watch.

    Breaking Bad Bots - Heisenberg

  • Finally, try and get a presentable and decent looking blog that I'm proud of. Eg - Title, Background, Buttons Etc.

And most of all try and be smiley and happy. I'm on anti- depressants at the moment as I have been feeling down and lost. I'm working through it and even though mine is a mild form of depression (unrelated to having Juno they think), I'm finding it helpful and re-assuring to read and find other bloggers who are going through this sometimes dark and terrible time. (Sorry I sounded a bit like Dumbledore then)

Just another thing, Juno wants to say a quick hello to everyone out there.

Hi Guys!

Tuesday Thoughts

Today my thought's and wishes are with the family and of course Malala, the 14 year old Pakistani girl who was shot on her way home from school by the Taliban for speaking out about education for women.

This act is horrific and to think she was only saying what she believes in makes it worse. Thankfully (and hopefully) she is in the safe hands of the staff of Birmingham hospital, getting the treatment and support she needs.

So what's next? As a new mother this makes me wonder when is the world going to be safe?

When Juno is Malala's age, can she go out on her own and be safe? Can she be herself with her own opinions and beliefs?

I hope that the people who did this get their fair punishment.

Of course I hope that Malala makes a full recovery too.

Speak soon.

Meet our new addition to the family - Walter White

About 3 weeks ago, I popped into my local pet shop to help Dani pick up her hamster for Eliya. I glanced across the counter and fell in love with a bearded dragon. He was the last one left and the lady in the shop told me he may not be for sale as one of the other dragon's had bitten his tail.

I immediately told the woman that if he comes available i will have him, and yesterday J brought him home.

We decided on Heisenberg for his name after Breaking Bad, but i call him Walter for short. We have also got quite a few crickets now as pets too.

There hasn't been much happening at the moment, I'm just trying to sort out finding a new house that we feel happy about as the neighbors downstairs are making impossible for us to be like that. I'm also making plans for the future either around Christmas or the New Year which will be exciting and also have a few ideas for future posts if I can pull them off.

Even though I haven't posted in a while, I'm still out there getting ideas and hoping my concentration levels come back for me to get more involved.

But enough about me, how's life treating you?

Any exciting news?

Speak soon.

Foodie Pen Pals - August 2012

When I was looking through a few new blogs (mainly to find some inspiration to make something) I came across this really cool Idea - Foodie Pen Pals. Started by Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean, It has now been brought over to England and Europe by Carol Anne at This is Rock salt

The idea is simple, you are paired with two different people, one who you send a parcel of goodies to and then another who you receive a parcel from.

It's a great way to meet new people and fellow bloggers. You start by emailing your FPP to see what they like and don't like etc. I had the lovely Isobel over at The Higley Kitchen. (you can see what she thought of my parcel here)

You then get an email from someone else (in my case I had Lisa from The Best Mummy I Can Be) I think I was pretty easy, I like most things and especially like baking. So I was so happy when I got lots of cake decorating goodies.

Lovely goodieness!

Lisa went with a British theme and I couldn't be more happier. The mature Cheddar and spring onion bites were delicious too.

I had Eliya-Mai for a few hours yesterday so as she was here when my parcel arrived, I thought it was only right we make cakes and decorate them.

Yummy cakes!

Think Eliya loved them too!
I can't wait for next month and If you are in Europe and England click here for more info.

I'm off to our town's Folkfest today so will speak soon.

My Tatty Devine Necklace

Yesterday I had a knock on the door  to find the postman bringing me this

A few weeks ago I entered a competition on Facebook to win a Tatty Devine necklace and I won!
If you haven't heard of Tatty Devine, you are missing out. They specialize in handmade perspex jewellery, but also create items out of wood, leather, veneer and enamel.

I would suggest checking them out if you are after an piece of jewellery that is different than you find on the high street.

Here is my Juno Necklace that I won. I chose Juno's name as I have a necklace that means something than just having my name.

I will post a picture of what it looks like on a bit later.
Have found Tatty Devine? What jewellery do you go for?

Cosmik Debris

Well as you know I love vintage and these guys bring that and a whole lot more!
Cosmik Debris is a relatively new clothing label bringing an unusual take on re-worked and customized vintage clothes. They specialize mainly in denim, but they take that and with a twist use dying, studding patch working and much more besides.

I especially love their range of re-worked shirts and jumpers, they would be great for summer or going on your holidays.

These are just some of my favourite pieces (even though I'd love quite a few more).

I've always fancied getting the bleach bottle out myself and have a go myself, but after stumbling upon these guys there is no need (think my bank balance is going to go way down too).

If you fancy checking these guys out they can be found on their Blog, Facebook, Twitter and soon will have a brand sparkly new website as well.

What do you think? Do you go for dyed denim? I'd love to know.

Speak soon.

What do you think? I urge you to have a go too. You will forget all about the time and spend endless hours on it like me.

My top 5 people for Christian Grey - Fifty Shades of Grey

Well I'm almost finished the first book (it's been hard to fit it round everything else and have the concentration to pick it back up) but it got me thinking who I think should be short-listed for the role of Christian Grey it the movie version of the book. So here are my top five choices.

Wentworth Miller

He's got the looks and the charm to pull it off, and everyone went crazy for him when he was in prison break (can you tell I've just started watching it?). The only problem is....... what would he look like with hair??

Charlie Hunnam

If you are obsessed with Sons of Anarchy as much as I am, you will have heard that Charlie plays biker Jax. He has the bad boy style and also the good side to pull it off, but would you go for a blond Christian?

Ian Somerhalder

Do I need to explain? Seem like the favourite at the moment that everyone is talking about!

Michael Fassbender

Well, he is suave, sophisticated and has done that film shame, so isn't afraid of getting steamy. Personally I liked him in Jayne Erye and X-Men First class. What do you think?

Robert Downey JR

Well, well well. He is a bit older I give you that but he could play a tree and i would still find him brilliant and sexy (sorry J). He has his bad boy image from his younger days, but now shows that he can have a softer more gentler side too.

Who would you like to see play Christian? I would love to hear who you have been picturing.

Rainy Day Dinner - Mac and Cheese

Well for this time of the year when it's raining outside, and you feel like something to lift your spirits up, try this - Hearty Mac and Cheese.

I found this on-line the other day when I was trying to find something for dinner that I've never cooked before. It says it serves 4 but you could easily get 6 portions out of this. (Sorry about the grainy picture, I had to take it on my phone)

For this dinner you will need

200g Macaroni
340g Broccoli Florets
340g Can of Sweetcorn
40g Butter
40g Flour
600ml Milk
1Tsp English Mustard
175g Strong Cheddar Cheese (grated)

*optional extra - a few cream crackers crushed (add just before the grated cheese on top for a cruchy topping)

  1. Heat the oven to 200 C, cook macaroni for 5 mins then add the broccoli and cook until just tender. Drain and put into an oven-proof dish.
  2. Melt the butter in a pan, stir in the flour and cook for 1 min. Remove from the heat and gradually add in the milk. Return to the boil and cook stirring until the sauce thickens.
  3. Remove from the heat and add the mustard and three quarters of the cheese and stir until melted.
  4. Add the sweetcorn and pour into the dish. Fork the sauce through the pasta and broccoli. Scatter the cheese on top and bake in the oven until the cheese is golden.
I hope if you try this you will love it as much as me and Jerome did. We even managed seconds, even thirds in some cases (Jerome). It will cheer you up no end with this lovely summer weather.

What's all the fuss about? - Fifty Shades Of Grey

Hey there, recently I've been pondering on what the big deal is with the book everyone has been talking about. If you've been living on another planet recently the news is the book 'Fifty shades of grey' has broken all records to become the fastest adult paperback to sell one million copies.
So I've decided to jump on the band wagon and have a go at reading this myself. I have time when Juno has gone to bed to do something, and along with my Paddington Bear cross stitch for Juno's room I'm going to do my very first book review.

Well what's it all about? I will tell you more about it when the review is posted but anyone who wonders, here is the blurb on the back of the book.

'When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.
Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.'

I'm really looking forward to reading this and hopefully get back into my reading cycle again.

So watch this space.

Check these guys out!

Thanks to one of my friends, I have been introduced to a new group called Walk off the earth. They are a Canadian indie band that have found their fame by making low budget music video's of covers and original songs.

I Personally like their cover of 'Somebody that I used to know' by Gotye but also check out 'Little Boxes' too.
What do you all think? Have you found any groups/ musicians that are a bit different that should be heard? I'd love to know.

The times coming soon.....

Well, today will make it five and a half weeks till my due date and me and J can't wait. Of course it's gone too quickly and there is still a lot to be done, but hopefully we should get it together in time.

We have lots of exciting things going on before then coming up, like a Valentines day visiting the hospital where we are planning to have her. In 2 weeks time we have Eliya - Mai's birthday party and birthday to look forward too ( which I have said I'll make the cupcakes for - watch out for Peppa pig ), and my granddad's 80Th birthday as well.

As far as my list of things I want to achieve in 2012 goes, I have been set the challenge to learn Sage by J (if I have the time) so he can just focus on the shop. I think this is going to be quite tricky but I'm looking forward to it as it's something I've wanted to learn and it could help me when I return to work later in the year.

The most important thing I have to do first, is to figure out what I'm getting J for Valentines day as we have decided to get each other something but not spend a lot. I'm not sure whether to make something as it's a lot more personal. If anyone has any ideas on how to get through Valentines on a budget it would be very helpful.

I will keep you guys posted on how the next few weeks goes, and maybe finally treat you all to a few photo's.

Speak soon.

Monday Music

Well I've got two for you today. One is the song that my niece sings (she's only nearly 2) and the other one is a group that I have just come across.

Maroon 5 - Mooves Like Jagger

I taught Eliya to sing this when we were waiting for her mum and nan to put the car seat in! She loves it and I have to get up and dance every time it comes on.

The Broken Vinyl Club - I Want you girl

This was actually there debut song, I came across them as I was looking into MOD music. They are a modern band that are from Cardiff. I think they are more classed as Indie but they are brilliant none the less. They are actually playing in Bristol soon so I might have to go and check them out.
For more info on the band this is there facebook page
